From restorations of classic designs to makeovers that breathed new life into aging properties, this year’s winners are enjoying a resurgence of interest and attention.
At first glance, Lakeside Golf Club in Burbank, Calif., and The Preserve at Oak Meadows in Addison, Ill., might not seem to have a lot in common.
One’s a high-end private club with a celebrity pedigree. Its members once included Groucho Marx and Bob Hope. The other’s a public couse that a few years ago was on the verge of shutting down because of persistent flooding and a devasting clubhouse fire.
But the two – our first-place finishers in this year’s Golf Inc. Renovation of the Year competition – also share a lot of similarities.
